"Yup, I knew it.
Another Annalee Newitz post.
Wall-E INSPIRING to science?
The post-apocalyptic movie where humans inevitably turned earth into an uninhabitable wreck?
And then applying the same "logic" to Gattaca and coming up with the opposite conclusion?
huh?
Also Mieville's The Scar as actually discussing science - this one is simply beyond me.
If anything it just goes to show the amount of thought that was put into these silly inconsistent categories.
At least you got Gawker some views."
"I got bored with the Space Program when I first read about SETI as a kid, twenty years ago.
When I saw the photos and the MASSIVE amounts of money that were poured into this delusional program I realized there was nothing to it.
Fantasy I love - in fiction.
When I saw idiots taking this fiction to heart, that's when I switched to "real-world" science fiction like William Gibson and Neal Stephenson.
It's the other way around than how he's presenting it."
"Oh boy, ARE they in for a massive surprise!
Especially with Transformers.
If the sequel doesn't have a half-decent script (and really half is all it needs) they're gonna bomb at the box office.
People went into the Michael Bay flick thinking "how bad can it be?"
"TOO GOOD LOOKING?
I still can't get over the idea that's a girl!
Whoever designed/modeled this scary 3d voodoo doll should be shot (or at the very least fired)."
"I stopped reading where you wrote the US is divided by Red and Blue states.
Say WHA??
Have you been watching the news lately?
And to go as far as saying Red states all vote republican and Blue states all vote Democrats is so far from representing ANYTHING.
There are many Democrats in Red states and many Republicans in Blue states.
I forgave you when you dissed King Kong in the giant monster thread, but this?
I can always tell an Annalee Newitz post, cause I go "Say WHA?" before I finish reading the first paragraph."
"That Alpha Centauri analysis is quite a reach.
It's a cliffhanger and as such they didn't want to tell you if this is the same earth in the BSG universe as ours until the last moment (or even then).
That's all.
There's still enough story to tell on earth itself for this to be a bogus planet."
"Asking for only four cylons actually makes perfect sense.
She still keeps the fifth a secret - as a trump card.
...aside from the producers wanting to keep the fifth a secret for the next half-season."
"Isn't Boomer the Eight that sided with Cavil?
Even Cavil calls her by that name.
The Eight seen with Helo is still unnamed, I think.
Also I don't remember D'Anna killing Boomer."
"Wow!
you didn't like King Kong...
I mean I get not loving it or having different expectations of it and being disappointed.
But that was an awesome movie."
"Does anyone still trust ANYTHING George Lucas has to say?
Seriously, the guy IS Darth Vader.
The latest trilogy is actually more autobiographical than he'd like to admit.
It's about this young kid who thinks he's the chosen one (like Lucas, when he was younger and modeled Luke Skywalker after himself) but as he grows older he realizes he's not and he crosses over to the Dark Side (again like Lucas, who turned the Force - that supposedly lives in all of us into a FAAKIN virus in your blood)"
"I can think of numerous special effect shots that would require 2 identical cars to be shot.
For example if you need Barricade to transform into robot and back to car again (maybe in a different lane or something) in the same shot."
